Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. There is no difference in beta-beti. The souls are innumerable. The souls have no gender. In shastras, originally, the soul is considered only in masculine gender and that is why, he is called “purush”. Only, the living body awarded by the Almighty God based on the previous lives’, deeds indicates the gender i.e., the gender is based on the body only and the body is placed on the pyre and is destroyed. The salvation is attained by the soul and not the body.
Hence, Vedas never state any difference between beta-beti. So, as regards good bat-beti, it requires good qualities, more the qualities, better the son or daughter is. So, competition is based on qualities and not in the matter of gender.
