M K: I have developed a very shameful bad habit. How can I get over it?
Swami Ram Swarup: To leave bad habits, a firm decision as not to repeat them, is requird. Repentance is also required. Repentance means that the person will not repeat the bad deed in future. In this regard I paste my article below –

Repentance

Repentance is the best way to kill the effect of sins. Repentance means to follow the Vedic path and to take a vow that the sins will never be repeated in the life.

If someone has done sin/mistake, realises it and repents it not to do it again in future by taking firm decision than the aspirant will be considered a real devotee. In this case, though the God will not forgive him for his previous sins but God has made a path of performing yajyen, name jaap and practice of ashtang yoga philosophy under guidance of a learned acharya. It is called a real worship of God and its regular practice will burn all the previous as well as present life’s sins.

Bad Thoughts

Good thoughts control bad thoughts. Therefore in Vedas, there are two pious words- sankalp i.e., pious thoughts and Vikalp i.e., bad thoughts.

In Shantiparv of Mahabharat, Bhisham Pitamah state that O Yudhishthir! There is a simple way to control the bad thoughts regarding sensuality, etc., that one should try not to allow any bad thoughts to enter in his mind. But question arises how the same can be made possible?

In this connection Rigveda Mantra 10/53/7 states that one should always work hard to do pious deeds according to Vedas. Thus, he will gather and realize the knowledge which will further enable him to control his senses, perceptions and mind. So it is necessary to seek the shelter of a learned acharya who will guide and preach the Vedic path. One should also learn Vedic philosophy which will help the individual to kill bad thoughts.

I have written about sixteen holy books based on Vedas, on such subjects. Some CDs containing spiritual preach and spiritual songs of mine shall also be of considerable help in this mater because main subjects is to listen Vedas either through Cds or books. One should also awake early in the morning daily for morning walk and light exercises , must take plenty of water daily i.e., 15-20 glasses a day, chanting of Gayatri mantra and doing daily hawan from Gayatri mantra gives a fruitful result. Aasan, prannayam and daily meditation must be learnt and one should practise the same.

S: Swamin, I am asking this question on behalf of my friend. She has been an innocent divorcee and has been staying in her parents house doing a job. She never regrets the divorce , but wonders whether God will make her eligible to reach Him, as she has no children. She is neither interested in second marriage nor she wants to adopt any child–because she has no inclination. she firmly believes that God will take care of her till her last day and will also come to conduct her last rites if she does not harm any one and lives her life this way. Is it correct interpretation of her decision? Thanking you, With regards, S.
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you, my daughter.

I will advise that she should try to compromise with her husband at her level best if divorce time has not elapsed much and if her husband has not remarried. You know, God helps those who help themselves. In Vedas God has framed some rules and regulations also in the matter of deeds. One should work hard to attain his/her goal while simultaneous by doing worship of God. She thinks that God will do good for her. Actually, this is not the Vedic rule. God will do good for her when she also works hard to attain her goal.

First of all, she should fix her goal whether she wants to compromise with her husband or not. In my opinion, she should compromise. If it is not possible from her husband’s side, then she should fix her goal whether she can be a social worker, spiritual singer, etc., or sadhvi. I mean to say, she should fix a good goal and then she should work hard along with the worship of God. You see, worship is most important pious deed for all humans, in the absence of which, no one can get peace.
Again, my blessings to you, my daughter.
