S. D.: Namaskar. Very frequently I get dreams in morning of departed grandparents or other friends who died. What is the actual reason for it and what’s the remedy?
Swami Ram Swarup: Namaskar, to you.
Seeing the departed in dreams

It is a fundamental law of nature that death sooner or later is sure. And we have to accept this bitter truth. It is good that one does not see the departed in dreams. According to the Atharvaveda to see the dead person in dream is not good. Every good deeds or services to the elderly are counted when they are alive and not after death please. One can, however, perform holy Yajyen with Ved mantras.

Dreams

The dreams are mostly false. Dreams are based on the scenes, stories listened in previous life as well as in present life. Samveda is upasana kand and tells worship for one immortal formless God, who is almighty, omnipresent, omniscient. He creates, nurses and destroy the universe and again creates, Vedas say that no one was equal to God and neither no God took birth in the past at present and will never take birth in the future too. There was one God, is one and will ever remain one. He is only everlasting eternal and unchageable king/lord of the universe. So we all must worship him only. In this connection guidance from a learned acharya of Vedas is necessary.

It is true that dreams come on the basis of the scene which we have seen in present as well as previous lives’. For example- if a person has never seen a fountain and he sees fountain in dream, it means he had seen the fountain in his previous life, the effect of which was imprinted on his chitta (mind).

Secondly, dreams are false. Dreams may give some pleasure but become painful sometimes. If a business man observes that he was a king in the dream but when he will wake up, he remains business man only and not the king. Vedas state that one should try to do worship of God to remove the occurrence of dreams in sleep.

Future is always based on past birth’ deeds or is based on present pious deeds. future is therefore in own hand, he who discharges his moral duties faithfully does hard deeds, pious deeds with full concentration, devotion and dedication, his future is always bright. One should attend satsang making time available to learn truth and know pious deeds to make future bright.

Bad Dreams

As you may be knowing, human body is separate and soul is separate. We are souls and not body. Soul does deeds through his senses, perceptions and mind and effect of such good or bad deeds is made on chitta. When a person mostly indulges in worldly affairs alone, then he becomes unable to clear the effect of such deeds in the absence of real worship i.e., Vedas’ knowledge, Yajyen, name jaap of God, practise of Ashtang Yoga. As a result, the soul with in body sees those effects in the shape of dreams.

Such practice is finished only when a person continuously performs havan and does worship as cited above. Then he attains a long, happy life. The chanting of Gayatri Mantra is also a jaap and havan from Gayatri Mantra is also the best. However, you must also sit on Sukhasan, Sidhasan or Padmaasan, then concentrate on Agya Chakra i.e., point between two eyebrows , then close your eyes and then chant with in heart Om, Om, Om. This is name jaap. Please also read my book Patanjal Yog Darshan- Part 1, especially sutra 1/27 & 28 wherein you will get detailed knowledge

REMEDY———

Shubh Karma

Hard working, devotion, dedication, honesty, services to the parents and elders to follow eternal religion mentioned in Vedas, practice of Ashtang Yoga, discharging moral duties to get progress in education, science simultaneously with spiritualism like, daily havan, to be in contact with the learned Acharya, to get his advice, are some of the pious deeds which make the future bright and obliterate the sorrows, problems, diseases, etc.

One must wake up early in the morning for early morning walk and exercises, must sit on meditation and chant holy name of God, must be away from any addiction and non-vegetarian. Such pious actions lead to long, happy life and bright future.

GAYATRI MANTRA
Please, start the day by chanting Gayatri mantra in the early morning sitting on suitable asan like Sukhasan, Siddhasan or Padmasan etc. concentrate on the point between two eyebrows which is called “Agyachakra”. The Gayatri mantra should be chanted along with its meaning both times. Also, please try to perform daily hawan even with Gayatri mantra. Then try to study any of my books daily and put up question if any.
After 15 days chant the Gayatri mantra only thrice thereafter do the name jaap of Almighty God-“Om”. The jaap must be done daily by heart and not orally.

The Gayatri mantra is as follows —
OM BHURBHUVAHA SWAHA TATA SAVITUR VARENYAM BHARGODEVASYA DHIMAHI DHIYO YO NHA PRACHODYAT

Meaning of Gayatri mantra stating each word is as follows. Its meaning is based on Vedas and Sanskrit grammar. Grammatical hints are in short please.

Om has three Hindi words. Aa, Uu AND Ma. Aa is meant for Aakaar from which three names of God are built,Viraat, Agni, and Vishwadi. From Uu = uukar from which Hiranyagarbha, Vaayu and Tejas names occur andMa = makaar from which Ishwar, Aditya and Praajyan aadi, holy names of God occur. Rigveda mantra 1/164/46 says God is one but His names are several. But here OM the holy name of God is only being explained.

VIRAAT= Viraat word is made from dhatu ‘Rajrideeptau’ i.e., manifest. Therefore Viraat means He who manifests the universe. As God manifests the universe, thus Viraat is the name of God. Rigveda mandal 10, sukta 129 states that like potter makes pot from clay, similarly God creates universe from non-alive matter prakriti. Prakriti is unseen matter. From unseen matter, the whole universe is created in the visible form. Science also says that matter is never destroyed but changes its form. Suppose a paper is burnt, paper changes its form into ashes. Then ashes are crushed and thrown in air. At this moment, the paper changed into ashes becomes invisible but was never destroyed. Similarly the whole universe at the time of finaldestruction is turned into prakriti i.e., into unseen form.

AGNI = From dhatu, ” ANCHU GATI POOJANAYOHO” the word “AGNI is made. Its meaning is — He who is a form of wisdom. “SARVAJAYEN” i.e., omniscient. I.e., knows even every atom of universe and even beyonduniverse too. He who is to be known, to be gained and worshippable. So agni is the name of God.

VISHWA = Vishwa word is made from dhatu, “VISHPRAVESHANE”. Its meaning is in whom the universe is entering or He is entering the universe. So being omnipresent, Vishwa is the name of God.

HIRANGARBHA = i.e., ” JYOTIRVAYIHIRANYAM”. Its meaning is, who is the base of all sun, etc., luminous lokas or He who is the living place of all luminous lokas.

VAAYU = from dhatu, “VA GATIGANDHANYOHO”, vaayu word is made. Its meaning is He who holds, gives life and destroys and the mightiest amongst all. So the name of God is Vaayu.

TEJ = from dhatu, “TIJA NISHANE”, the word Tej is made who is self made and self-enlighted and gives light to sun, moon, stars etc. God does not take light from anywhere else but gives light to sun, moon, stars, etc. so the unbroken, unobstructed/unproduced and eternal shape of light is Almighty God and not sun, moon etc. So the name of God is Tej.

ISHWAR = from dhatu, “ISH ASHWERIYE”, the word Ishwar is made. Its meaning is whose knowledge is thoughtful and true and has unlimited wealth, fortune and glory etc. Therefore the name of God is Ishwar. Here it is not out of place to mention that soul (man/woman) has limited qualities and are dependent whereas God is independent and has unlimited qualities that is why He is God.

ADITYA = from dhatu, “DO AVAKHANDANE”, Aditya word is made. Its meaning is the one who cannot be broken into pieces and thus cannot be destroyed. So God’s name is Aditya.

PRAJAYEN (PRAGYA) = from dhatu, “JYEN AVABODHANE”, Prajayen word is made whose wisdom is totally without any misunderstanding and thus he who knows every Manner and behavior of whole universe without misunderstanding. So God’s name is Prajayen. So here also it not out of place to mention that illusion can never attack on God and God is totally free from illusion.

BHUHU= “BHUHU ITI VAYEE PRANAHA” i.e., He who is the base of lives of universe, is most beloved, even more than Pran i.e., breath. So Bhuhu is the name of God.

BHUVAHA= “BHUVAHA ITI APANAHA” i.e., He who is totally free from any sorrow, and with whose contact, the soul removes his all sorrow. So the name of God is Bhuvaha.

SWAHA= i.e., “SWAHA ITI VYANAHE” who is omnipresent in the universe and is holding the same. So the name of God is Swaha.

SAVITUHU = He who creates the universe. So the name of God is Savituhu.

DEVSYA= who gives all pleasure/merriment, so the name of God is Dev.

VARENYAM = He who is the most supreme and acceptable. God is most supreme and acceptable for worship.

BHARGAHA = the purest entity (though God is formless, but finding no suitable English word of Sanskrit word, “SUDH SWARUPAM” the word entity has been used.)

TAT = i.e., the God i.e., of the purest entity.

DHIMAHI = i.e., we must hold (sort of meditation) because

YAHA = the God

NAHA = our,

How to do havan

Please sit in the morning to perform havan. Havan must be in sunlight then it is more beneficial. Then half a bowl of fresh water with a tablespoon must be with you with small twigs especially of mango tree if possible, havan samagri, ghee, camphor and match box must be there with you. Please sit on sukh asan on four times folded blanket and blanket must be on mat.

Sukh asan i.e., sit on duly folded feet in comfortable position. Then first close your eyes and concentrate between two eyebrows and chant Gayatri mantra three times within heart and not by mouth. Then open your eyes.

Take one spoon of water in right palm. Chant this mantra, OM AMRTO UPASTRANMASI SWAHA and drink the water which you have put in your palm. Then again take the spoon of water in right palm then chant the next mantra, OM AMRITA APIDHANMASI SWAHA, and drink the water. Then again take the water in right palm and chant the mantra, OM SATYAM YASHAH SHRI MAYI SHRI SHRAYTAAM SWAHA, and drink the water. Then wash the right palm while sitting, with the same water kept in bowl.

Then put the twigs into havan kund with one piece of camphor and burn it. During this process chant the Gayatri mantra again and again till such time the fire is lighted sufficiently. Then chant the Gayatri mantra and at the last add the word Swaha and offer ghee with tablespoon, quantity equivalent to 4 to 5 drops. And if you are alone then also offer in fire pinch of havan samagri from your right hand’s finger and thumb avoiding forefinger. So this offering may be of 11 times, 21 times or 51 times as the time suits. It is the simplest way and I have not quoted the complete method of Yajna. The havan with Ved mantras are always offered as the best worship of God only please. Do havan daily and both times.

R S: I had working in stock market since from 15 year, but I could not get profit in life but lot of money in life as lost in stock market. I use to trade everyday but I also lost in trading so please give me the advice that how to make the money in stock market.
Swami Ram Swarup: I do not believe in stock market or share business. Everybody must do hard working in business or any job to earn lot of money for himself and family.

A: Swamiji Namsate! I would be highly obliged if i get the answers for the following queries.
1. Whether SOUL can be weighed, measured and felt?
2.I often see myself from one of the corners of room, is that my soul sees that?
3. I always find that while chanting mantras- I become more of mechanical in delivery of same. My mind gets engaged in some other thought and at the same time I remain aware that I am chanting mantra and thinking. It means i have three/four kind of working memory in me. What are they? They are not aligned. Kindly suggest the way to keep them aligned.

4. I am doing all asanas like sarvangasana for 5min and reverse, halasana, shirshana for 05min and pranayam like full breath inhale and exhale, kapalbhati for 05min and bhastrika but mind is still beyond control. Unable to concentrate on breath, how to achieve that?
5.In order to avoid negativity and unknown fear, I had started chanting MAHAMRITUNJAYA MANTRA for 108 times daily. My respected elders at home advised me not to do this as this mantra to be performed 1.5lakhs times between amawasya and purnima otherwise negative fall out would be there. I obeyed them and adopted MRUTUNJAY mantra instead- SHAM SADASHIV GIRJA NAYAK MRITUNJAYA BHAYBHAVHARAK. Kindly advice me to keep mantra chnating successfully. Yours A.
Swami Ram Swarup: Namaste ji.
(1) Soul is most minute that it can never be weighed, measured and felt. Yogi realises himself means that he has known soul/himself.

(2) Soul is never seen. Actually, you are soul so how can you see yourself? Due to indulgement in illusion, people actually think that they are human bodies and hence the problem.

Guidance of spiritual master when an aspirant follows the eternal, Vedic path and does name jaap, meditation etc., then the aspirant realises himself and God within him.

(3) Usually this happens to every aspirant/worshipper. It is called- lack of concentration. First of all, one should always try to concentrate his mind in chanting the Ved mantras and as usual after sometime the mind will keep itself engaged with other events. Then again, the mind should be cut off from the events etc., and made to concentrate on mantra chanting. This will happen again and again. But, one day if aspirant will be cautious and doing hard work on the above practice, it will achieve concentration and not wander elsewhere. Second practice must be of name jaap of God, daily under the guidance of a learned acharya.

Third, is asan and prannayam along with meditation which enable the mind to achieve concentration.

(4) I would advise you that if you are living near Himachal Pradesh, then you should come here to get guidance personally. Otherwise, you should seek a learned acharya of yoga and vedas Philosophy locally. Then only the correct procedure of asan, prannayam and meditation can be checked, please.

However, if you are yourself satisfied in doing the above practice of asan, prannayam etc., then you may go ahead and I hope one day everything may be fruitful.

(5) The mantra chanted by you is from Yajurveda chapter 3, Mantra 60. No Ved mantra gives negative effect. So, you can chant the mantra. But I would advise you to do hawan with this mantra. It is far more beneficial for you and everybody because mantra itself says to do hawan. I paste my article in this regard, below.

Mahamrityunjaya mantra

Mahamrityunjaya name has been originated by we people, otherwise it is Yajurveda mantra 3/60. So we must say that we are reciting Yajurveda mantra but it has been a tendency to say it as mahamrityunjaya mantra. It can never be started with any other shloka or mantra etc., because Ved mantras emanate direct from God at the beginning of the earth. So Ved mantras have not been written by a Rishi-Muni, man, woman etc., as Almighty, Omnipresent, Formless God is unchangeable. So are the mantras. The Knowledge of Ved mantras is eternal, immortal and unchangeable.

In the said mantra, we pray to God that Oh God! I perform your Yajyen, may my life be long i.e., 100 years or upto 400 years as the Vedas say. However, no one can cross the age of 400 years please. So, everybody must recite and do Yajyen from the said mantras himself because in the mantra we are praying to God that Oh God! I am myself doing your worship by Yajyen and no one else on my behalf.

“TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE SUGANDHIM PUSHTIVARDHANAM URVARUKMIV BANDHANAANMRITYORMUKSHEEYA MAAMRITAAT.”
(Rigveda mantra 7/59/12)

“TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE” is the Rigveda Mantra number 7/59/12. Its meaning is (TRIYAMBAKAM) whose knowledge remains constant in past, present and future. Actually “AMBAKAM” means eyes, TRI means three i.e., He who has three eyes. Here three eyes means past, present and future, the three phrases of time i.e., whose knowledge remains unchangeable in past, present , future times and who is present and sees past, present and future.

(YAJAMAHE) do daily worship ((SUGANDHIM), who makes us the best and the purest (PUSHTIVARDHANAM) who increases the strength of our body and soul.

Meaning:- We must daily worship the God whose knowledge remains unchangeable in past, present and future and who is present and sees the past, present and future. He makes us the best and the purest and increases the strength of our body and soul.

Idea:- Yajyen and Ashtang Yoga Practice is the best worship of God. So, we must daily do Yajyen and Ashtang Yoga Practice.

(BANDHANAAT) connected to (LATAA) creeper (URVARUKMIV) like a ripened cucumber (MRITYOHO) from death (MUKSHEEYA) get liberated.

Meaning:- With the grace of God, may I get liberated from death like a ripened cucumber which gets released from the creeper.

Idea:- The cucumber automatically gets separated from the creeper when it gets fully ripened. It becomes tasty even. Similarly, by the worship of God i.e., while performing Yajyen and Practice of Ashtang Yoga Philosophy, I may also attain full disease free age i.e., hundred years or more and get free from the death automatically.

(MA MUKSHIMAHEE) may we never be separated from faith, belief (AMRITAM) from supreme, divine pleasure of final liberation.

Idea:- This human body is blessed by God to do daily Yajyen wherein knowledge of Vedas is also listened from Brahma i.e., learned acharya who is a philosopher of four Vedas and Ashtang Yoga . Our faith and belief must never diminish from following the said path of worship to get final liberation.

Main Idea:- In the above mantra , we pray to God. There are two types of prayers-
1. Prayer emanates direct from God in the shape of Ved mantras like above mantra which are eternal, true and the best.

2. Prayers which are man-made in the shape of so many shlokas etc., written by human-beings i.e., saints etc.

No doubt that the prayers which emanate from God are the best. So, the human being must know the deep philosophy of the Vedas and must worship God and must do prayer of God as mentioned in Vedas which will ever be beneficial for all mankind, we must only worship the God whose description has been given in the Vedas by God Himself. Who can know God as God knows Himself? So, description of God in Vedas is eternal, true and the best.

Secondly, prayer is not enough. God states in Vedas (Refer Rigveda mantra 1/10/5) that one must also do hard, pious deeds to fulfil one’s prayer otherwise prayer will not help the person. Based on the Philosophy of Vedas, nowadays the true phrase is famous-“God Helps Those Who Help Themselves”. So we must ourselves do hard, pious deeds according to our prayer. Worship for the God/Gods against the Vedas are always sorrowful.

So the idea of the above mantra is clear wherein it is mentioned “TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE” i.e., Oh! God, we do Yajyen (worship) ourselves. So we can never depute any other person to perform the Yajyen from the above ved mantra because mantra states to perform the Yajyen ourselves. Mostly, due to lack of knowledge of ved mantras, we engage some other person to perform Yajyen which according to Vedas, can never be beneficial.

Because “YAJAMAHE” is “ATMANEPAD DHATU”. Dhatu means root word. It means YAJAMAHE word is applicable to personal matter. So we will have to perform Yajyen, personally. In Vedas its name has not been mentioned as “Mahamritynjaye mantra”.

However, if somebody has stated its name as Mahamritynjaye jaap then it makes no difference if we are aware of the truth-

That it is Rigveda mantra 7/59/12 (quoted above) and also Yajurveda mantra 3/60. So the study of Vedas and above quoted mantras reveals –“TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE” i.e., we must perform Yajyen with Ved mantras ourselves and do hard pious deeds i.e., listening of Vedas , performing of Yajyen and practice of Ashtang Yoga Philosophy daily to fulfil the prayer mentioned in above mantras i.e., Oh! God may I be liberated from death and get divine pleasure of final liberation. The hard, pious deed must be carried out while discharging all our moral duties as mentioned in Yajurveda mantra 40/2.

So, Mahamrityunjaye Jaap in reality is Yajurveda mantra 3/60 in which we pray to God to keep us away from the death and give us salvation. When we offer aahuti of this mantra in hawan/yajyen then our pray is listened by God. However, mere prayer will do nothing until we act/do hard, pious Vedic deeds to get the result.

However, your fear and negativity will automatically be stopped by doing above quoted worship. So, the man-made mantra mritunjaya mantra is not needed, please.
