Amit: Charan Sparsh Swamiji, I am very much confused about the word ‘raag’. What is its
exact definition and how it is different from love? We read in Ramayan that Sri Rama felt in grief when Ravan kidnapped Mata Sita. Similar situation occurred when Laxmanji lost his consciousness during his battle with Meghnad. Was it the ‘Raag’ of Sri Ram?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Raag means the enjoyment/merriment experienced by a person through senses, perceptions and mind. One desires to experience the same again and again. For example- suppose one has eaten rasgulla. Now, he desires to eat it again and again. Even ignoring the medical advice. So, is the matter of sensuality, sins etc. Love, if is based on physical charm only, is counted in the category of Raag. But when love is based on soul, then it is called true love. Sri Ram and Mata Sita, both were learned of Vedas, here there is no question of raag but true love. It was the true love between Sri Ram and Mata Sita that Mata Sita remained pure under the confinement of Ravanna.

Amit: My another question is about soul to soul love. What is its meaning and how can
we judge whether our love with some person is ‘soul to soul’ or not? Secondly, does this love continue in next births also as the soul is immortal?
Swami Ram Swarup: Soul to soul love means when a person(male/female) learns Vedas,
shastras or holy books and based on such worship he/she becomes learned and knows that he is immortal soul residing within destructible body, body is separate and he is separate and thus he has full control on his senses, perceptions, mind and intellect. It means he knows love which is based on soul. Because he knows that physical charm is not everlasting whereas soul is eternal and everlasting. If he would love only physical charm then his flame of love would fade away when the beauty of the physical charm shall vanish away. So, his love based on physical charm will automatically fade away.

Vinay: Does excess of sexual indulgence leads to blackness of face?
Swami Ram Swarup: It is not necessary that excess of sexual indulgence would appear
in face as blackness, it may or may not be. But really, the said person will soon be met with several diseases, weakness and early death.
