R P: My sister seeing our deceased grand parents in her dreams regularly. First she was seeing our grandfather and now seeing both grandparents? What is the reason behind this ?
Please reply. Namaskar
Swami Ram Swarup: To see the parents or any person in dream who have gone heavenly abode is always harmful, say Vedas. In this connection, I paste my article below-

Dreams

The dreams are mostly false. Dreams are based on the scenes, stories listened in previous life as well as in present life. Samveda is upasana kand and tells worship for one immortal formless God, who is almighty, omnipresent, omniscient. He creates, nurses and destroy the universe and again creates, Vedas say that no one was equal to God and neither no God took birth in the past at present and will never take birth in the future too. There was one God, is one and will ever remain one. He is only everlasting eternal and unchangeable king/lord of the universe. So we all must worship him only. In this connection guidance from a learned acharya of Vedas is necessary.

It is true that dreams come on the basis of the scene which we have seen in present as well as previous lives’. For example- if a person has never seen a fountain and he sees fountain in dream, it means he had seen the fountain in his previous life, the effect of which was imprinted on his chitta (mind).

Secondly, dreams are false. Dreams may give some pleasure but become painful sometimes. If a business man observes that he was a king in the dream but when he will wake up, he remains business man only and not the king. Vedas state that one should try to do worship of God to remove the occurrence of dreams in sleep.

Future is always based on past birth’ deeds or is based on present pious deeds. future is therefore in own hand, he who discharges his moral duties faithfully does hard deeds, pious deeds with full concentration, devotion and dedication, his future is always bright. One should attend satsang making time available to learn truth and know pious deeds to make future bright.

The reason of seeing such dreams or any dream is attachment. Dreams are seen based on previous life and as well as present life events. If a person performs daily havan even from Gayatri mantra both times and try to destroy the attachment then the person overcomes the dreams.

About dreams, Atharvaveda kand 16 sukta 5 throws light. Conclusion of the mantras is that one who weeps for those who have gone to heavenly abode, his age is also reduced.

Atharvaveda mantras 16/5/1,2,3 states that the dreams is the reason to create early death. Dream is sorrowful like death. Next mantra 4 also states that dreams create early death. Next mantra 5 states that dreams minimize the wealth. Again, mantra states that dreams cause loss. Dream is the reason for defeat. Atharvaveda mantra 7/100/1 states that impious dreams create sins in mind. Atharvaveda mantra 7/101/1 states that dreams are not true yet create above quoted problems. So, in several ved mantras, dreams are stated to be harmful.

Seeing the departed in dreams

It is a fundamental law of nature that death sooner or later is sure. And we have to accept this bitter truth. It is good that one does not see the departed in dreams. According to the Atharvaveda to see the dead person in dream is not good. Every good deeds or services to the elderly are counted when they are alive and not after death please. One can, however, perform holy Yajyen with Ved mantras.

Ojaswi: Pranaam swami ji thank you for your reply about the actual meaning of akaal mrityu and what are reasons behind it? But I want to know one more thing as I listen with some pandits that we can postpone someone’s death by some mantras & pooja? Eg: maha mrityunja mantra etc. Please reply… Thank you. God bless you..
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you and you are always welcome. Death cannot be postponed by any pandit or by any man-made shlokas etc., say Vedas. Rigveda mantra 10/51/6 states that duly afraid of the death, soul goes under shelter of God. (It is symbolic). The meaning of shelter of Almighty God is the shelter of Vedas and learned acharya of Vedas/ashtang yoga philosophy. Further Yajurveda states that ‘Aayu yajyen kalapantam’ i.e., a devotee who performs daily Yajyen from ved mantras traditionally under guidance of an acharya and does practice of ashtang yoga philosophy, his age is increased.

The conclusion of Vedas is that death time is fixed by Almighty God based on our previous life deeds. Therefore, nobody can decrease/increase anyone‘s death. Further God has fixed death time. God is only empowered to increase and decrease the death time based on our pious deeds/sins. God has Himself framed rules in Vedas to increase the death time as quoted in above ved mantras. So, nobody on the earth can decrease/increase death time except Almighty God. As regards mahamritunjaya jaap, I paste my article below-

“TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE SUGANDHIM PUSHTIVARDHANAM URVARUKMIV BANDHANAANMRITYORMUKSHEEYA MAAMRITAAT.”

(Rigveda mantra 7/59/12)

“TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE” is the Rigveda Mantra number 7/59/12. Its meaning is (TRIYAMBAKAM) whose knowledge remains constant in past, present and future. Actually “AMBAKAM” means eyes, TRI means three i.e., He who has three eyes. Here three eyes means past, present and future, the three phrases of time i.e., whose knowledge remains unchangeable in past, present , future times and who is present and sees past, present and future.

(YAJAMAHE) do daily worship ((SUGANDHIM), who makes us the best and the purest (PUSHTIVARDHANAM) who increases the strength of our body and soul.

Meaning:- We must daily worship the God whose knowledge remains unchangeable in past, present and future and who is present and sees the past, present and future. He makes us the best and the purest and increases the strength of our body and soul.

Idea:- Yajyen and Ashtang Yoga Practice is the best worship of God. So, we must daily do Yajyen and Ashtang Yoga Practice.

(BANDHANAAT) connected to (LATAA) creeper (URVARUKMIV) like a ripened cucumber (MRITYOHO) from death (MUKSHEEYA) get liberated.

Meaning:- With the grace of God, may I get liberated from death like a ripened cucumber which gets released from the creeper.

Idea:- The cucumber automatically gets separated from the creeper when it gets fully ripened. It becomes tasty even. Similarly, by the worship of God i.e., while performing Yajyen and Practice of Ashtang Yoga Philosophy, I may also attain full disease free age i.e., hundred years or more and get free from the death automatically.

(MA MUKSHIMAHEE) may we never be separated from faith, belief (AMRITAM) from supreme, divine pleasure of final liberation.

Idea:- This human body is blessed by God to do daily Yajyen wherein knowledge of Vedas is also listened from Brahma i.e., learned acharya who is a philosopher of four Vedas and Ashtang Yoga . Our faith and belief must never diminish from following the said path of worship to get final liberation.

Main Idea:- In the above mantra , we pray to God. There are two types of prayers-

Prayer emanates direct from God in the shape of Ved mantras like above mantra which are eternal, true and the best. Prayers which are man-made in the shape of so many shlokas etc., written by human-beings i.e., saints etc.

No doubt that the prayers which emanate from God are the best. So, the human being must know the deep philosophy of the Vedas and must worship God and must do prayer of God as mentioned in Vedas which will ever be beneficial for all mankind, we must only worship the God whose description has been given in the Vedas by God Himself. Who can know God as God knows Himself? So, description of God in Vedas is eternal, true and the best.

Secondly, prayer is not enough. God states in Vedas (Refer Rigveda mantra 1/10/5) that one must also do hard, pious deeds to fulfil one’s prayer otherwise prayer will not help the person. Based on the Philosophy of Vedas, nowadays the true phrase is famous-“God Helps Those Who Help Themselves”. So we must ourselves do hard, pious deeds according to our prayer. Worship for the God/Gods against the Vedas are always sorrowful.

So the idea of the above mantra is clear wherein it is mentioned “TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE” i.e., Oh! God, we do Yajyen (worship) ourselves. So we can never depute any other person to perform the Yajyen from the above ved mantra because mantra states to perform the Yajyen ourselves. Mostly, due to lack of knowledge of ved mantras, we engage some other person to perform Yajyen which according to Vedas, can never be beneficial.

Because “YAJAMAHE” is “ATMANEPAD DHATU”. Dhatu means root word. It means YAJAMAHE word is applicable to personal matter. So we will have to perform Yajyen, personally. In Vedas its name has not been mentioned as “Mahamritynjaye mantra”.

However, if somebody has stated its name as Mahamritynjaye jaap then it makes no difference if we are aware of the truth-

That it is Rigveda mantra 7/59/12 (quoted above) and also Yajurveda mantra 3/60. So the study of Vedas and above quoted mantras reveals –“TRIYAMBAKAM YAJAMAHE” i.e., we must perform Yajyen with Ved mantras ourselves and do hard pious deeds i.e., listening of Vedas , performing of Yajyen and practice of Ashtang Yoga Philosophy daily to fulfil the prayer mentioned in above mantras i.e., Oh! God may I be liberated from death and get divine pleasure of final liberation. The hard, pious deed must be carried out while discharging all our moral duties as mentioned in Yajurveda mantra 40/2.
