HR: Dear swamiji, what is dashkriya vidhi, and meaning of performing 11th 12th and 13th day after death of a person? Are the well defined in Hindu dharma? Please guide me. I am confused aboutvperforming them. My father has expired recently, and need your guidance before I go ahead in performing these rituals.
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. Dashkriya vidhi and performing of rites on 11th, 12th, and 13th day after death of the person are the customs made by us. In Vedas, such customs have not been mentioned. You see, when soul leaves the body then no result of deed can be attained by the soul. The pious deeds are done and its result is obtained only when the soul lives in body.
Even cremation is done of the dead body and not that of soul. Cremation is done in accordance with 39th chapter of Yajurveda to avoid deterioration of dead body, bad odour, spreading of germs etc.
so, the result of cremation of dead body as a pious deed is not obtained by the soul but is obtained by the persons who do it. After cremation nothing is required to be done and no one gets the result of any pious deed etc., say Vedas.
Mawaram: Namaskar Swamiji, I am in possession of the Mahabharata four volumes and English translation. I was searching for this information: After Bhishma was shot by Arjuna, he
was able to survive for a number of days. I was trying to locate this information from the Mahabharata but I was unsuccessful and I need this info in the shortest of time. Please let me know which volume and the page number in order to find this info plus the number of days Bhishma was able to survive. are allowed as quoted in Rigveda mantra 10/85/45.

In addition, you should sit on any asan and do name jaap of God- Om, both times, with full concentration.
