Swami Ram Swarup: Being a lengthy task, please send your postal address to send the meanings of requisite ved mantras in Hindi. However, the ideas of mantras are as under-

1.) Rigveda mantra 3/53/14- As amongst the ignorant people, cows do not increase, among atheists, good qualities and discharging of moral duties do not increase; similarly atheists should not increase amongst the learned persons.
2.) Rigveda mantra 8/70/11- Human-beings should only worship Almighty God. They should not do evil deeds, in society, villages and nation. They should not involve in infanticide. It is a duty of a king to make arrangement to cause welfare of the society.
3.) Rigveda mantra 1/130/8- The human–beings should accept the persons having good qualities, deeds and nature and they should leave evil hearted persons.
4.) Rigveda mantra 10/22/8- God or the king destroys the persons who lack hard-working, have pride, who suppress and torture others.
5.) Atharvaveda mantra 8/8/7- The king of a nation should enlarge his army. He should be powerful, so that even if the enemies are in thousands or millions yet the enemy should be unable to win over him.
6.) Rigveda mantra 1/176/4- The king should admonish the lazy persons. As a learned tries his level best to give pleasure to others similarly, everybody must try their level best to give the pleasure to others.
7.) Rigveda mantra 1/51/9:- it should be the duty of all the religious persons that they spread the Vedic knowledge to others, to destroy ignorance so that the persons leave unrighteousness and hold righteousness.
8.) Rigveda mantra 2/12/5 :-some say that where does the surprising God lives? Some say that He is ferocious, other say He is calm, some say that there is no God at all but He is the base of universe because He holds it. He gives preach through Vedas and He is therefore adorable by all.
9.) Rigveda mantra 8/100/3 :-definitely, the aspirant who through Vedic knowledge has decided about the form of God, he only can worship Him by eulogizing (praising) God’s Divine qualities. On the other hand, the person who has not studied the Vedas and has thus not decided about the definite form of God, he always remains doubtful about God.
10.) Rigveda mantra 5/33/3:- Oh! King, or learned, those persons who are incapable, they should live far away from us. If you know the tact of driving vehicle, then you also get power in war.

12.)Rigveda mantra 10/83/1 – a person should be so glorious and have such self-respect that it effects others.
13.) Rigveda mantra 6/44/17:- Oh ! King, you be victorious over your enemies. By maintaining Brahamcharya and consuming juice/extract of herbs, you get pleasure and give pleasure to the warriors.

Davendra: Swamiji I have become a vegetarian but my friends are saying that it is not written in our religious books that we can not consume meat. Is there a mention of meat consumption in the holy books?
Swami Ram Swarup: In Vedas and all other holy granths, intake of non-veg and any addiction is strictly prohibited. I paste my article –

Prohibition on Non-vegetarian food

Vegetarians and non-vegetarians are two categories. Accordingly, the construction of body i.e., teeth, small intestine and large intestine, and digestive system has been made by God.

Human beings come in vegetarian category. Our teeth and digestive system are different from that of cat, dog, lion etc. Some animals like cow, buffalo, goat, elephant etc., also come in Vegetarian category. We take water by sipping but the animals who are non-vegetarian i.e., meat eaters, they do not sip but lick. Whatever we eat, that food develops our mind and body and creates natural behaviour. For example, if we take a cub who is newly born and nurse him by giving milk and thereafter vegetarian food only and on the other hand to another cub we provide meat, then when they will be younger their habits will differ. The cub taking vegetarian food will not be as violent as the cub who took meat.

Now medical science also says that the energy in vegetarian food is more than that in non-vegetarian food. Vegetarian food gives long and ill free life. Vegetarian elephant is stronger than non-vegetarian lion.

Nobody can take meat until one inflicts violence on animals or birds etc., which is a sin. Our stomach becomes a graveyard where we gather meat in it by eating. As regards life in vegetarians, they are not harmed when we pluck or gather food from plants etc. because every plant has short life and is meant to give food to the human life. But we are entitled to meat. Science has recently told that non-vegetarians are more susceptible to cancer disease and teeth degeneration as compared to vegetarians.

Non-vegetarian food is prohibited as per Vedas, shastras, Upnishads and all the ancient holy books. In vegetarian food an ocean of calories and vitamins is available by the mercy of God. Please check from a dietician about the same. Because it is lengthy one and I cannot explain here. For example dal, is full of proteins, soyabean has more protein than any non-vegetarian food, which has ability to inhibit cancer also where as non-vegetarian doesnot. Green vegetables like palak, methi, etc., are the richest source of iron and vitamin A. So is the case of milk, curd, rice, fruit, etc.

In Rigveda mantra 10/27/6 God states that (Darsham) I see and know them (Annindran) who do not have faith in God and are atheists and (Shritpaan) who devour the flesh of others.

(Eshu) upon them (Uu Nu) definitely and soon (Pavyaha Vavrityuhu) befall My punishments.
Idea of the mantra is that The God is Omniscient i.e., He knows everyone. So, He knows those persons as well, who consume non-vegetarian. The said act being against the Vedas becomes a sin and God sooner or later punishes such people.

Hence, the study of four Vedas reveals that innumerable benefits have been contained in the Cow by God for the human-beings. The study of Ved-shastras, Upnishads, Valmiki Ramayan, Bhagwad Geeta, Mahabharat reveals that non-vegetarian food and addiction by human-beings, has strictly been prohibited by Almighty God.The views of the said books are absolutely true. In this connection I would like to mention that the knowledge is only obtained when it is given by someone else. Otherwise, the people would remain ignorant, indulged in illusion. So a deep consideration would enable us to think that the first holy book named Valmiki Ramayan was possibly written by Valmikiji, about one crore eighty-one lakh years ago, when he had studied Vedas first. Otherwise, ignorant person would not be able to write such a great epic. So is the case of writing Mahabharat epic, six shastras, Upnishads and other ancient and present holy books. Therefore the said holy books written by Rishis are totally based on Vedas and hence considered authentic by the learneds. Yog Shastra sutra 1/7 educates the human-beings by saying that to come to a conclusion/truth, the views must tally with Vedas first then with the above said books. It is sad that most of the saints who are preaching and writing the books never produce proof of Vedas supporting their respective views. Sins are committed due to ignorance. Nowadays Vedas are not been listened properly, hence ignorance prevails. Therefore the grave sin of consumption of non-vegetarian food is increasing day by day. It has led to prevalence of number of diseases. Further, law of nature is that carnivorous animals like lions, leopards, tigers etc., hunt the herbivorous animals. But herbivores like deer, rabbits, elephants never take non-vegetarian food.

Similarly, God has created bodies of human-beings to take only vegetarian food but it is sad that several human-beings are in the habit of taking non-vegetarian food and thus break the laws of universe made by God Himself in the Vedas. You see defaulter of such laws is always punished and God has also stated in several mantras to award punishment to people who take non-vegetarian food.

This habit as quoted above is due to ignorance/illusion. If our Government draws its attention towards the eternal knowledge of Vedas which emanate direct from God, then no doubt the people will gain long, happy life with all assets, say the Vedas.
