M: Pujya Swamiji, My husband is very devoted to his mother who is 94yrs old and spends all his time in taking care of her. She has no health problems and her movements are restricted due to age. He and I are 60+. Being the only son, all our married life we have hardly spent time together. Now for the past two years, he has stopped coming out with me for any family/social functions etc. on the pretext of his duties to take care of his aged mother. Does he not have any duty towards wife to give her company? Should he not give importance to my feelings? I feel neglected and agitated. Please advice. Pranam.
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you, my daughter. Actually, my daughter, here I would appreciate your husband to look after his mother sincerely. On the other hand, I will have to say that it is wrong on his part not to devote time for his family, which is his moral duty, say Vedas. At this belated stage, now I would only advise you my daughter to take care of your family and to ignore your husband’s attitude. It will unite your family and to unite the family is your moral duty.

Actually at the age of 60-64 years, one should cooperate with each other to discharge one’s family duties and also to do Vedic worship daily and simultaneously, failing which person commits sin.
You are now aged lady. This is the time to control desires. No doubt, your husband is not doing good when he is ignoring you but after several years of marriage, time has been passed by you and your husband.

If I’m asked to say Vedic preach here, then I will say that it is the time for you and your husband to maintain Brahmacharya and devote more and more time in worship, spiritual deeds and discharging moral duties etc. So, according to Vedas, if your husband does not pay attention to you then in return you should pay attention towards your husband and his mother to devote some time in spiritual matters and worship of God together. This will bestow long, happy life on you. If you know Hindi, then I would send you my book named “Brahmacharya Dukh Nivarak Divya Manni” for study by you and your husband. If you both desire, then please send your postal address. Book will be presented free of cost, because it will give you immense knowledge to gain happiness.
