Swami Ram Swarup: Poornnima and Amavasya days have been mentioned in Atharvaveda
but Guru poornnima has been created i.e., is man-made. In fact, about 5,300 years ago Vyas muniji who had learnt the Vedas traditionally by heart, decided to write the Vedas on Bhojpatra and he wrote. Day, when he completed his writing of four Vedas, that day fall on poornnima. He was a Rishi and not a saint. His disciples then honoured him on that Poornnima and day was remembered as Vyas Poornnima. So, Vyas Poornnima relates to eternal knowledge of Vedas and not with present type of Guru Pooja. Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu ………… devo namaha is not written in Vedas. It is written by some saint in guru gita and learned do not accept it as authentic.
