Hari: Pranam, Gurudev, I am being haunted with this question since long, for which i desperately need an answer, I sincerely hope you would answer this:
Why has God created all this creation, and so called good and bad deeds, if god is omnipresent why is bad deeds being allowed and then being punished later in future births for which they are not aware, is it not unfair, any way why all this in first place?
Swami Ram Swarup: My blessings to you. God creates the universe but not good and bad deeds. In human life, we are free to do good or bad deeds but result is awarded by God Himself in the shape of happiness and sorrows, please. I paste my article below-

CREATION

The creation is eternal and automatic. There is no date of creation of the following:

(A) Almighty God who is alive, immortal, formless, creates, nurses and destroys the universe. He never indulges in any maya, mahamaya, illusion and deeds (good or bad. Yajurveda Mantra 40/8 and Yog shastra Sutra 1/26 also refer)

(B) Soul: Soul is alive, the purest, away from sins etc. but illusion covers the soul due to which soul forgets his original form and hence remains in sorrows, problems etc.

C) Prakriti: Non-alive and has three qualities. i.e., Raj, tam, Satva. At a proper time, the power of God acts in prakriti and the universe is created. So the creation is eternal and automatic.

Raj, Tam and Satva are the three qualities of prakriti. When the said gunnas remain idle dormant i.e., do not work, then combination of these three gunnas(qualities) in dormant stage is called prakriti and this time is called “final destruction” of the universe. When an appropriate time comes, the creation is to be started again. Then the power of God works in the above three gunnas i.e., in the prakriti and immediately the creation starts. Rajo gunn is a sign of sensuousness etc., Tamo gunn signifies laziness and sato gunn signifies ego, pride. Our human body is also made of the said three gunnas.

Vedas tell that there are three eternal/immortal matters- first: Almighty God, second: souls, third: prakriti. Almighty God creates, nurses and destroys the universe and again creates it. The said process of creation is eternal/immortal/everlasting. Almighty God creates the universe from prakriti. When the raj, tam and satva gunnas of prakriti remain idle (dormant condition/inactive) then creation does not take place. At an appropriate time, a power of Almighty God acts in prakriti (i.e., in Raj, tam and satva gunnas). Immediately the process of creation starts and the first matter of prakriti is made which is called –Mahat i.e., mind; from Mahat- ahankar is made, from ahankar panch (5) tan matrayein, from panch (5) tanmatrayein, panch (5) mahabhoot are created. From panch mahabhoot, the entire matter of universe i.e., Sun, Moon air, water , our bodies, bodies of other living beings etc., are created. The whole creation is thus created from prakriti and remains still (in active) like a statue. This creation is called non-sexual creation. In the said creation, the young human bodies are created which are neither old nor babies. Then by the power of God, in the said bodies, breathing system (prann vaayu) starts operating. At last, God enters into the universe and immediately all the humans and other living beings become alive and start functioning. Similarly, the non-alive matters like Sun, moon, earth, air, water etc., start their respective functions.

Creation, Science, worldly matters etc., is not possible until the same is created by someone. Secondly, knowledge is attained when knowledge is imparted by someone.

Rigveda mantra 10/129/ 1-6 throw light about creation that at that time, there was nothing and no living beings did exist. So there was no learned acharya who could give the knowledge to the newly created living beings like parents who educate the children to make them able to speak language and to know about the matters like crow, animals, chapati, ghee, sun, moon i.e., all matters of the world. See, if a newly born baby is managed to live in dense jungle and nursed well but he is not given education about the worldly matters etc. i.e., mathematics, science, animals, sun, moon etc., then even at the young age of 20-25, 30 years, he will not be able to speak any language and when he will be brought out of the cave of dense jungle and will be asked about the sun, moon, animals, birds before him, then he will not be able to reply because he was not given the said knowledge.

When we see towards sun, moon, air, space, human body etc. It is clearly understood that the said creation has not been made by any human being but Almighty God, from whom the knowledge of four Vedas emanates. In Vedas, the knowledge right from straw to Brahma has been mentioned. So in the beginning of non-sexual earth, the Vedas originated in the heart of four rishis: Agni, Vaayu, Aditya and Angira, and from the rishis the knowledge of science, deeds and worship along with every matter is being given to the public by which the public became educated scientist and wrote books, etc.

In Vedas as well as in fourth chapter of Yog Shastras of Rishi Patanjali, it is mentioned that those who do not believe in God are provided more and more facilities by nature and such people get spoiled etc.

On the contrary those who worship God, they naturally try to kill their desires and accordingly under the law, nature, help them to follow the true path to realize the God.

It is also pertinent to mention here that in Vedas, there is no mention of avtarwad or any proper noun, please. Vedas do not even contain any story or past, present or future life of anyone. Vedas contain knowledge i.e., entire science, form of deeds/duties and worship of God. Actually Vedas give knowledge right from straw to Brahma (God) of entire universe.

All four Vedas tell to worship a formless, Almighty, omnipresent, omniscient God who creates, nurses and destroys the universe. God was one, is one and shall ever remain one. He is unchangeable, unchallengeable and beyond description. He has unlimited qualities and thus unlimited names but is one. Because He is Almighty and needs no help of anyone to create, nurse and destroy the universe therefore no need to take avtar.

Why God Creates Man?

First of all we will have to understand that who am I ? The knowledge of Vedas and experiences of ancient and present learned acharya say that to know the same “I” the creation of human/living beings’ body is known. I have described this matter in detail on this web site and have also written Hindi/English books which conclude that “we/I” am not body. Body is created by God from three gunnas of prakriti. “we/I” reside within body and are called “souls”. Body is destructible but soul can never be destroyed. Body is non-alive but souls are alive. Souls i.e., we are not made by God. Secondly nobody has made God as well. Thirdly, nobody has made prakriti also. So due to lack of knowledge of Vedas, some doubts arise, it does not matter. It is good that doubts like that of Arjuna, are placed before any learned acharya. God, as said in Rig-Veda mantra 10/129/7, may or may not create world including our human bodies, to make the soul to live in those bodies for the purpose of making soul face his good/bad karmas. In case God doesn’t create bodies then the soul will remain in SUSHUPT stage (i.e., in stage like/ sound sleep). Would it be good if any person sleeps for many thousand years and does nothing? However, it is not in anyone’s hand that God creates or does not create the universe. Secondly it is eternal law that the universe has been created, nursed destroyed and again created. This law is unchangeable. People may or may not raise doubt in not even God can change His eternal laws as is also said in Rig-Veda mantra 2/38/9.

SUPPOSE SOUL DOES NOT TAKE BIRTH THEN WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

The form of soul is also eternal and immortal. So soul never meets with death. It is only living being’s body which after leaving the soul, becomes dead and is cremated. So at this juncture the soul does not take living being’s body. Then it will remain unconsciously in the space. The soul will then ever remain in unconscious (coma-like) condition. Now, suppose a person remains in coma, it means he is not able to do anything and even will not be liked by anybody. So will be the case of soul who will be in a position like in coma and will be of no use. The self-made story which I have told above is actually not applicable for the soul because the creation is eternal and automatic.

God has no desire of creation etc., please. He is devoid of desires. As I have told above, the creation is eternal and automatic, however the creator is God. Automatically at an appropriate time, the minutest divine power of God acts in non-alive prakriti and creation starts. So one should be cleared that God even does not create the universe. He is mere efficient cause (in Hindi Nimit Karann) . and the prakriti is eminent cause (in Hindi Upadaan karann). So, actually the God is Nimit-Upadan Karann of creation.

In reality, the soul does not always remain in Sushupt (coma) stage but by doing pious deeds according to Vedas, soul experiences most divine merriment after attaining salvation following the path of Vedas. So, God bestows mercy on public and has blessed us with human body and eternal knowledge of Vedas to attain salvation.

So we are free to do good or bad deeds but result is awarded by God according to previous lives’ deeds. So souls take birth at his own, if the soul does purely pious deeds according to four Vedas why will he get rebirth? That is soul will not take birth. So creation is eternal and if could not be then we would have been like an idle stone thrown in dense jungle.

Yes, there is chance only in human life to make birth pious, extraordinary and long, happy and healthy by following Vedas. As regards mistakes, Vedas state about previous life and present lives’ deeds. It is bad luck of human being if they do not listen Vedas to know the mistake of previous human-lives. Our present birth is based on deeds of previous lives. Present and future happiness as well as birth also depends on present pious deeds based on Vedas.

Ramesh: Please suggest me healthy way of living as I am sixty one years old, retired person. Presently I am doing 30/35 minutes exercise in the morning and go for walk in the evening. I am doing meditation for 5/10 minutes but does not find any use other than calmness.
Swami Ram Swarup: Whatever you have asked, it relates to health only. No doubt, good health is a first requirement to discharge our duties. Basically, there are two types of duties- 1. Towards family, society, nation and humanity which comes under worldly pious deeds 2) While discharging the said duties, the main purpose of life is to attain salvation by discharging spiritual duties. The said two paths have been told in Vedas, named as pitrayaan marg and Devyaan marg. Vedas-Shastras, upnishads and all other holy granths preach to us that if we fail to follow the devyaan marg i.e., Vedic, spiritual path then our duties towards worldly deeds will go in vain and we can never attain peace. So, peace is attained by following above quoted both paths, simultaneously. Though, the said two paths start right from the date of birth of a child when his Jaatkarma sanskar is performed. (It is performed soon after taking birth). Thereafter, remaining fifteen sanskar till death are required to be performed. But, it is sad that due to lack of eternal Vedas’ knowledge, which was in practice till Mahabharat war, mostly the people are unaware about the sanskar. I mean to say that both the paths start since the time of birth. But, if a person becomes unable to follow the spiritual path, still Vedas tell that as and when he comes to know, he should immediately start the Vedic worship of God i.e., the spiritual path, which is the main motto of life. Respectfully, I tell you that you may be knowing the above quoted matter yet I thought to mention the Vedic preach for the benefit of all the readers on this site. So, I would like to state that you should get early in the morning and after having bath, after sitting on an easy asan, Gayatri mantra should be chanted with its meaning of each word, within heart, concentrating on agyachakra i.e., place between two eyebrows. Thereafter, one should do name jaap of Almighty God. After doing jaap, practice of asan and prannayam should be faithfully done. Before starting chanting of Gayatri mantra, one should take at least one or one and a half glasses of water empty stomach.

Then you should sure go for a morning walk and light exercise. Now, the time comes when the rays of sun start touching the earth, this is the pious time to do agnihotra. After doing agnihotra, one should take light breakfast like Daliya, milk and any kind of fruit like apple etc., (which suits). However, the breakfast should be light. Then for entire day, one must take plenty of water uptil the time of retiring to bed, which is essential for keeping good health. If at least, 12-14 glasses of water should be consumed. Water used should be boiled and cooled. Now, the time comes to read newspaper, thereafter time comes to study Vedic, spiritual books. Time to time, one should attend Vedic satsang locally. I have written several books in Hindi and in English. Spiritual songs in shape of Cds have also been made here. Books and Cds can be sent to you, if you desire. List of books is available on the site.

After taking lunch, one should get sort of rest. the above quoted procedure should be repeated in the evening, please.

Healthy food for you is daliya, curd, milk, chapatti, rice, salad, fruits, dry fruits which suit you, especially five almonds (blenched). One teaspoon honey, if suits. One-fourth cup juice of amla, mixed with honey, never take stale food, also please like advise from dietician. Exercise for knee pain will be intimated on receipt of information from you as to what type of knee-pain you have been experiencing i.e., medical opinion on this regard.

Vinay Arya: According to Swami Ram Swarup, a Maharshi is he who has done hard practice of Ashtanga Yoga. And Dayanandaji was a Maharshi. So it means that he had done hard practice of Ashtang Yoga. According to Swami Ram Swarup one can fly with the help of Yoga. So,it means that Mahrshi Dayanandaji could fly. So why did he not fly in order to fight when Gundas came to him?Why did he use Ratha?
Swami Ram Swarup: This is not matter of flying. But, this is the matter of achieving Yoga’s qualities after listening Vedas, doing Yajyen and ashtang Yoga practice.

Now, you see that any yogi who has done the above worship will never tell that he has acquired the quality of flying. It is the best known by yogi like Maharishi Dayanandji or others. This is their matter to tell whether they have that quality or not and whether they want to disclose it or not, whether they want to use this quality or not. A Yogi has several divine qualities like to make his body like an atom or to increase it to largest size etc. but it is yogi’s matter, as quoted above. When a person becomes Yogi, God blesses him with several divine qualities as mentioned in Yajurveda chapter 7 and in yog Shastra sutra 3/45.

Vinay Arya: The answer to questions here come too late. It can take from 7-20 days. Isn’t it to late?
Swami Ram Swarup: Sorry, being busy in daily spiritual task like Yajyen, writing of Bhagwad Geeta- a Vedic Rehasya (3rd part), other articles and new task of issuing first edition of Vedic magazine, I could not answer earlier but now I will try to answer soon, please.
